In 2003 Mobile Reach saw the potential for growth in mobile communities, for both SMS and WAP. Mobile Reach Media sought expressions of interests from mobile community providers worldwide, undertook considerable evaluation and chose Lateral.
A key feature of the Lateral platform was it’s ability to be branded and localised for the specific requirements of the operators or clients. Mobile Reach Media chose Lateral because of this branding functionality, plus it’s powerful user experience capabilities, and extensive roadmap.
Mobile Reach chose the name On2Chat and have deployed it on all major networks in Canada.
The On2Chat branded services has been tailored for the Canadian market, is localised specifically for each operator, but communicates with a common user base including the Vodafone Live! customers in Australia and New Zealand.
As part of the Canadian localisation on2Chat also detects the language settings on the handsets and offers French language instructions and help menus to French users. This function will also be deployed in Spanish.
On2Chat is a good example of how the core TribalG Social Networking System can be re-branded by licensing partners and on-sold to their partners.
Currently On2Chat is available on Rogers AT&T, Fido and Bell Canada, with some connections to smaller operators. Volumes in the Canadian market are continuing to grow steadily. It is fully expected that On2Chat will continue to spread through North America.
